Church History

Past

In 1949 Phyllis M. Angus and Mary E. Kibbe were led to start a ministry to the people of Point of Rocks, Maryland. Envisioning a missionary outreach to the small historic community, the Reverends Angus and Kibbe founded Solid Rock Assembly of God.  They began holding church services in their rented house on Tuck Avenue.  Shortly thereafter, an Assemblies of God church in Washington DC donated a two-acre parcel of land, and construction began on a new church building. The work was done entirely by volunteers from the congregation in DC as well as from Solid Rock AG.  Water was carted to the construction site from the near-by Potomac River, and building materials were donated by the congregations and the community.  The building was completed in time for Easter 1952.

Present

In order to accomodate our growth, Solid Rock Assembly of God relocated to our current facilities in July 2001; an historic church building on Clay Street / Rt. 28 (see picture above) in Point of Rocks.  Our pastor, the Reverend John Weber, came to us in the Spring of 2003.  Pastor John and his wife, Christine, served churches in New Jersey and Maryland (ministering together since June 1987) before accepting the pastorate here at Solid Rock.  They have three young daughters; Naomi, Rebekah, and Annalisa.

Future

After more than 50 years of ministry, we give thanks to the Lord for the promise of the future as well as the many blessings of the past.  The turn of the century has brought significant changes to the small community of Point of Rocks.  A new sub-division is more than doubling the size of our town.  In order to continue to minister effectively in this community we must be willing to grow along with the community.  With this in mind, our church has purchased a 5.4 acre lot on Catoctin Mountain Highway (Rt 15) and is anticipating the construction of new facilities within the next few years!
